How to use this in the classroom
Drill format for percentage conversion. Especially valuable in the lead-up to FDP assessment items. Run as a 5-minute warm-up or a 15-minute station rotation. Year 5–6.
What it builds
Quick percentage-decimal-fraction conversion. The skill that students are routinely tested on but rarely drilled to fluency. The game's question-and-answer format builds the recall speed that more arcade-y games (Percentman) then deploy under pressure.
Common misconceptions it surfaces
- Decimal-point shift errors. Converting 25% to 0.025 because they 'moved the decimal' the wrong way
- Out-of-100 confusion. Students convert 0.5 to 5% because they read the decimal as 'five tenths' and chose the wrong place value
- Fraction-to-percentage by numerator. Converting ⅓ to 33% or 3% by reading only the numerator
Differentiation
- Going slower: Common percentages only (50%, 25%, 10%, 75%).
- Going faster: Include uncommon percentages (12.5%, 87.5%) and harder fractions.
- Extension: Students write the THREE forms (F/D/P) for each correct answer.
