How to use this in the classroom
Solo equivalence-matching drill in card-flip format. Students see two cards and tap SNAP when they're equivalent. Strong for Year 3–5 students building speed; works well as a 5-minute starter or as recess-time engagement.
What it builds
Cross-representation equivalence speed. The game mixes fraction notation, decimals, percentages, vocabulary, and visual representations so students must recognise equivalence regardless of form — the foundation of FDP fluency.
Common misconceptions it surfaces
- False starts under time pressure — students tap when they see ANY similarity (same numerator, same denominator) rather than actual equivalence
- Form-locked thinking — students recognise that ½ matches 2/4 but fail to spot that ½ matches 0.5 or 50%
- Visual-only matching — students match the pie-half to ½ without computing the equivalence, missing that the same pie matches 0.5 too
Differentiation
- Going slower: Disable percentages and decimals; play with fractions and vocab only until secure.
- Going faster: All five representations enabled; smaller card window.
- Extension: Students keep a tally of false-starts and try to reduce it round over round.
