Years 4 to 8 ยท Money ยท Profit and loss ยท Percentages ยท Decisions
Every student runs a stall for a run of school days with $100.00to start. Each morning the wholesale prices and the day's event go on the board. They decide what to buy and what to charge. At the bell the customers decide the rest, and the cash carries to tomorrow.

The stall
- ๐ฅง Meat pie: about $2.20 wholesale, customers think $4.00 is fair.
- ๐ญ Sausage roll: about $1.50 wholesale, customers think $3.00 is fair.
- ๐ง Juice box: about $0.80 wholesale, customers think $2.00 is fair, keeps overnight.
- ๐ Apple slinky: about $0.60 wholesale, customers think $1.50 is fair.
- Unsold pies, rolls and apples are waste. You paid for them.
- Highest cash after the last day wins.
The maths on the board
Profit is revenue minus cost, and markup is the gap as a percentage of cost. Charge more and fewer people buy; charge less and you sell out and leave money on the table. The event card shifts demand (a heatwave doubles drinks and halves pies), so the lesson is reading the day, not just the price list. After each day the board shows the class average price for every item and the stall that did best with it.
